| A successful author of motivational books (Seann William Scott of American Pie infamy) returns home to his hick town in an effort to stop his mother (Susan Sarandon) from marrying his old high school gym teacher (Billy Bob Thornton), a man who made high school hell for generations of students. In addition to some hilarious scenes of kids being forced to do push-ups by their gym teacher, there’s a great message here about letting go of your past and learning to forgive and forget. Thornton is as good as ever, but it’s Seann William Scott, who has also appeared in the films Welcome to the Jungle and Dude, Where’s My Car?, who steals the show, playing the agitated son who’s pushed to the edge by his aggressive new stepfather-to-be.
