Terminator Salvation [ M ]

Release:  31/May/2009

Platform:  XBox360

Rating:  M

Genre:  Action

It’s a tough challenge to mention Terminator Salvation and not break into a spooling rant about the hilarity of Christian Bale’s film set psychotic meltdown. But in this case it’s possible, mostly as Bale’s likeness as John Connor doesn’t feature anywhere in this spin-off game.

As it turns out, Terminator Salvation is less a lazy film-to-movie rehash as one might assume. Far from regurgitating the events of the film, it’s set two years prior and sets up a lot of the relationships between John Connor and other members of the resistance that’ll feature on the silver screen.

As expected, it’s all about kicking murderous metal rump. Players control John Connor in the third-person as the resistance leader embarks on a string of missions to keep humanity kicking and screaming.

With all the heat these terminators throw out, it makes sense that taking cover forms a huge part of the gameplay. Much like in Army of Two, players can slide from cover to cover, blind fire and use AI allies to distract heavily armoured enemies whilst they move in behind to lay the lead-laden smackdown. Apart from the obvious T-100 units, the maniacal Skynet forces also consist of flying drones, hulking four-storey brutes, and even dreaded T-1000 units as seen in Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

The other big feature is full-scale co-operative play, online or off. As expected, the offline version splits the screen in two, allowing players to work together to use the environment and create flanking opportunities.
#1 Whip It
Drew Barrymore's directorial debut is a classic coming-of-age story... on roller skates. No, it's not back to Xanadu, but into the high-impact world of girls' roller derby, where Bliss Cavendar (Ellen Page) finds herself transformed into Babe Ruthless.
