Whilst Grand Theft Auto took the idea of broad, go-anywhere gameplay to the masses, it’s not the only title to adopt a sandbox approach. The new contender out to create a meaningful open world adventure is Sony’s Infamous. Unlike Grand Theft Auto, that puts players in the shoes of a thug, Infamous’ protagonist is a bloke called Cole who turns out to be a run-of-the-mill Joe Blow... until something happens.
The poor blighter is caught up in a huge explosion that charcoals several blocks of his hometown, Empire City. He quickly realises that the blast has endowed him with superhuman powers that allow him to manipulate electricity, but before he can zap a pigeon into a meal for one he passes out for an entire fortnight.
When he awakes the game kicks off! Whilst out to it, Empire City has had a few, erm, ‘issues’. Notably, a nasty plague has spread like a string of Starbucks cafes, forcing the city under quarantine. Meanwhile, rival gangs and factions have emerged, eager to play Mad Max. To top things off, the media are blaming little ol’ Cole for all the city’s problems. Players must now scoot about using their powers throughout the city to get to the bottom of the story, save the day, and make up with Cole’s ex girlfriend.
Apart from the survival angle, Infamous also dabbles in morality. Players can choose to aid citizens in distress and build up their hero status, thereby increasing the likelihood citizens will reciprocate the help when needed most.

#1 Whip It |
|
Drew Barrymore's directorial debut is a classic coming-of-age story... on roller skates. No, it's not back to Xanadu, but into the high-impact world of girls' roller derby, where Bliss Cavendar (Ellen Page) finds herself transformed into Babe Ruthless. |

#1 Rogue Warrior |
|
Rogue Warrior’s Dick is harder than a coffin nail. We know this statement to be true because we’ve played it, a shooter based upon the exploits of Mr Richard ‘Dick’ Marcinko – a real life, ex-Navy SEAL legend. |
