Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen [ M ]

Release:  31/May/2009

Platform:  Playstation 3

Rating:  M

Genre:  Action

The far-groping arm of Michael Bay strikes again! After his initial Transformers film grossed more than the yearly GDP of New Zealand, his sequel, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, has also touched down with the mandatory film-to-game slab of fluff.

Yes, the initial Transformers: The Game was naff. But this new game was made by a new developer and won’t be satisfied being left to rot into a beer coaster. Developer Luxoflux have pulled out all the stops as huge Transformers fans to ensure this title features critical improvements across the board. For one, all the old dodgy driving mechanics of the first game have been tossed into the skip with a grenade. Additionally, the transformations of each robot have been better integrated into the game, allowing players to transform between both forms seamlessly, and the new ‘overdrive’ mode grants invulnerability and other perks when on a destruction run.

As in the previous title, players select from one of two campaigns from the get-go; either fighting as an Autobot alongside the human military to rid the world of overall nastiness, or to tear up everything in sight as the grungy Decepticons. The latter are now even more adept at destruction, with bots like Starscream able to burn around in plane form, before transforming into a hovering bot to unleash further carnage.

Additionally, the game features massive boss encounters based on scenes from the film, as well as a range of multiplayer modes, such as ‘Deathmatch’, ‘Team Deathmatch’, and ‘Capture the Flag’, to add cream to the top of this pie.

#1 Whip It
Drew Barrymore's directorial debut is a classic coming-of-age story... on roller skates. No, it's not back to Xanadu, but into the high-impact world of girls' roller derby, where Bliss Cavendar (Ellen Page) finds herself transformed into Babe Ruthless.
